"Dreaming" Of A Hat-Trick

Jun 29, 2017

NEWCASTLE: Thursday, June 29, 2017: KRIS Lees believes his talented filly Just Dreaming can clinch a hat-trick at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Form apprentice Rachel King reunites with the Snitzel filly in the Benchmark 76 Handicap (1500m).

Her 1.5kg allowance means Just Dreaming will carry the same weight (58kg) as when successful in a Benchmark 73 Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on June 17.

Tommy Berry rode her then, but King was aboard when she won a Benchmark 70 Handicap (1500m) – also at Rosehill – on June 3.

Just Dreaming has a 50 per cent winning record (four from eight starts) and also finished a splendid fourth from a wide draw to France in the $400,000 Inglis Guineas (1400m) at the Scone carnival on May 13.

Lees has kept the three-year-old filly against her own age in her recent Rosehill victories, and can’t see any reason why she won’t complete the hat-trick.

“Just Dreaming has trained on strongly,” Lees said this afternoon.

“She doesn’t win by big margins, but makes her own luck, is tough and can carry weight.

“I think she can win again.”

It’s “girls’ day out” at Rosehill, with Lees’ four representatives all being females.

His other runners are Rustic Melody (1900m Benchmark 78 Handicap), Upscale (1200m Benchmark 78 Handicap) and Savoureux (1100m Benchmark 93 Handicap).

Hugh Bowman partners both Rustic Melody and Upscale, and King also rides Savoureux, reducing her weight to 61kg.

These are his thoughts on the trio:

RUSTIC MELODY: “Hasn’t won for just over 12 months, but there were signs at her last start (second over 1600m at Warwick Farm on June 12) that another success is not far away. Could definitely win this on her best form.”

UPSCALE: “I thought she ran really well last time when a very close third at Rosehill a fortnight ago. Things just didn’t go her way in the run. That has brought her on and she is fitter for this race.”

SAVOUREUX: “Didn’t get a start in the Tattersall’s Tiara at Doomben last Saturday. Has been trained in Queensland and is nice and fresh for this. She is at big odds and can certainly cause a surprise.”
