NEWCASTLE: Wednesday, April 11, 2018: IT’S a baker’s dozen for Kris Lees at Royal Randwick on Saturday of Day 2 of The Championships.
And there could be 14 if first emergency Hallelujah Boy gains a start in the $500,000 PolyTrack Provincial Championships Final (1400m).
Lees this morning finalised riders for his six qualified runnerswith Josh Parr booked for Tawfiq Boy and Glyn Schofield taking the mount on Kool Vinnie, and he also has two of the three emergencies (Hallelujah Boy and third reserve Waimea Bay).
Hugh Bowman partners pre-post favorite Just Dreaming, Kerrin McEvoy rides Bastia, Jason Collett is on Serene Miss and Damien Oliver rides Princess Posh.
Oliver won the Provincial Championships Final on another mare, Danish Twist, for Lees in 2016.
Lees’ stayer Doukhan, the sole emergency for the $2m Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m), has secured a start following the withdrawal of Adelaide Cup winner Fanatic.
He has booked Yusuke Ichikawa for Doukhan, whilst Grant Buckley rides his other Cup representative, Admiral Jello.
Waimea Bay, third reserve for the Provincial Final, is an acceptor for the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m), and Schofield has been booked.
Lees has secured Melbourne jockey Ben Melham to ride Danish Twist in the $300,000 Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) against her own sex.
She joins stablemate Sugar Bella in the Sapphire, withCollettto ride the latter.
His other Day 2 runners are both in Group events – and Collett is on board the pair.
He partners underrated filly Chilly Cha Cha in the $1m Australian Oaks (2400m), and New Zealand mare Aide Memoire in the $1m Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m).13
